About Osteopathy

What is osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and hands-on treatment that focuses on how the body’s structure relates to its function. Techniques range from soft-tissue work and gentle articulation to specific joint manipulation. Treatment aims to relieve pain, restore mobility and support recovery while considering the whole person.

What to expect

During your first visit we take a thorough case history and carry out a physical examination. We explain our findings and agree a plan tailored to your goals. With your consent, treatment may include manual techniques, targeted exercises, and posture or lifestyle advice to help you self-manage between sessions.

Wear comfortable clothing you can move in.
You’re welcome to bring a chaperone.
Mild post-treatment soreness for 24–48 hours can be normal.

Joint pain and stiffness (hips, knees, shoulders, etc.)
Headaches arising from the neck
Muscle/tendon strains and sports injuries

Education & training

UK osteopaths complete an accredited 4–5 year degree covering anatomy, physiology, pathology, clinical methods and extensive supervised practice. Ongoing CPD is required to maintain registration.

Regulation & safety

“Osteopath” is a protected title in the UK. All practising osteopaths must be registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) and follow its professional standards. We liaise with your GP when appropriate, and will refer you if we find anything needing medical investigation.

Principal Osteopath

Liza Adams

Liza has worked as an osteopath since 1990 and is the principal practitioner at Twist & Shout Osteopathic Health Centre. She provides patient-centred care, drawing on over 30 years of experience to support people of all ages with a wide range of conditions.

Associate Osteopath

Charlotte Eady

Charlotte graduated with an M.Ost in 2015 and has developed a broad practice with a special interest in sports injuries and rehabilitation. She helps patients regain function and reduce the risk of recurrence through tailored treatment and advice.

Heidi Sharp – Acupuncturist

Heidi qualified in 2001 from the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine (Reading) and is a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC). She runs a clinic in Bridport on Tuesdays and Fridays, using a combined style of Five Element and Traditional Chinese Medicine to support patients physically and emotionally.
